What to know About Your First Visit
Here are a few FAQ’s many have asked when getting started with yoga at Sway.
What Do I Need to Begin?
All you really need to begin practicing yoga is your body, your mind, and a bit of curiosity. But it is also helpful to have a pair of yoga leggings, or shorts, and a t-shirt that’s not too baggy. No special footgear is required because you will be barefoot. It’s nice to bring a towel to class with you.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
We have mats and any other props you may need for class. You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. You may find as your practice develops you might want to buy your own yoga mat.
How Many Times Per Week Should I Practice?
Yoga is so good for the body to stretch and breathe even if you only practice for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice. If you can do more than that, you will certainly experience more benefits. I suggest starting with two or three times a week. You may find that after a while your desire to practice expands naturally and you will find yourself doing more and more.
I'm Not Flexible—Can I Do Yoga?
Yes! You are perfect for yoga. Many people think that they need to be flexible to begin yoga, but that’s a little bit like thinking that you are too dirty to take a bath. Come as you are and you will find that yoga will help you become more flexible.
Where do I park?
Most people park on the street in metered parking spots, on Conception or Conti Streets, or around Bienville Square. You can also park in the 2-hour parking spots on Dauphin St. Four quarters will get you an hour in the metered parking spots. There are also a couple of pay to park lots off of Conti Street but is much cheaper to park on the street.
I am pregnant, is there a class for me?
You should check with your physician before you start any physical activity. If you have already been practicing yoga regularly, any of the classes will be fine. We can help you add modifications as you and your baby grow. If yoga is new to you, start with the gentle yoga class to stretch and breathe and the Sway Barre class to work on strength.
